Overview:

By the time of the Whiting Conference, most Inner Sphere Great Houses had enough battlearmor production to begin equipping their front-line units.  Battlearmor deployment was still haphazard, and woefully less than demand, but there was a company here, a company there, that were showing up in more force on the front lines.  With battlearmor deployment came the need for a specialized dropship for carrying the armor, as the standard infantry carriers just would not cut it anymore, due to the equipment needs of battlearmor units.

On the planet Gibbs in the Donegal March of FedCom territory, TAG began modifying their Intruder design to accommodate battlearmor.  While largely successful in the endeavor, the redesign added 200 tons to the Intruder's mass, and unfortunately more than doubled its cost.  While firepower is roughly comparable to the upgraded Intruders TAG is currently producing, there is more emphasis on defensive-type weaponry such as pulse lasers, point defense lasers, and LB-X autocannon.  The Intruder-BA also has 25% more heat capacity and roughly 20% more armor than the upgraded Intruder, allowing it more flexibility and durability.  These improvements are largely what drove up the cost.

The Intruder-BA has the capability to carry up to 16 squads, a company's worth in the AFFC, of Battlearmor to the battlefield, and also has facilities for a pair of fighters or shuttlecraft, and a platoon of marines for ship security.  The first prototypes saw action during Operation Bulldog, and TAG has begun limited production since then.
