It is well built and has a heavy flair for effective fire support. Following up their successes with their Hunchback and Longstrike omnimechs, and the successful debut of the Combine's Avatar omnimech, Burger's Battlemechs decided to contact Earthwerks Incorporated about creating an omnimech version of the Archer as a supplement and rival to the Avatar.õ Earthwerks responded by donating a few ARC-4M Archers and technical advisors to Burger's Battlemechs, with the stipulation that they receive licensing rights on the new omnimech when it was completed, to which Burger's Battlemechs agreed. Using the donated ARC-4Ms as prototypes, Burger's engineers came up with a viable configuration that is easy to maintain and repair. In fact, the finished design differs but little from the ARC-4M, sticking with the standard engine, double heat sinks, and endo steel internal structure. As the armor was already near maximum, the engineers decided not to tinker with it. CASE was automatically installed in the side torsos, since the Archer commonly uses missile weapons as its primary weapons. Almost thirty tons of pod space ensures that the ARC-O will have an effective arsenal in any configuration. The primary configuration differs but little from the original ARC-4M and vintage ARC-2R, which will help facilitate transition from the old mechs to the Omni. Instead of the Artemis IV FCS of the ARC-4M, though, the primary configuration has an extra ton of ammo for each launcher. This is due to the fact that many front-line units across the Inner Sphere, and the Free Worlds League in particular, are experimenting with alternate typs of LRM ammunition, a situation which the primary configuration accounts for. The "A" and "B" configurations have come out of the Draconis Combine, having been given a few units for their assistance on omnimech design. "A" uses two of the DCMS's newly developed MRM-30 launchers and adds 5 Medium Lasers to create a potent medium-range fighter. "B" is also excellent at medium-ranges, utilizing 4 Streak SRM-6 launchers. An ER Large Laser in the center torso enables the ARC-OB to attack opponents at long range. An interesting configuration that has only been seen twice in the Free Worlds League is the "C" configuration. This configuration downgrades the LRM launchers to 15-racks. The extra tonnage is used to add jump jets, a rare feature on the Archer. Close-in support is provided by 3 of the new Diverse Optics ER Medium Lasers, while a Medium Pulse Laser provides rear defense. Three double heat sinks have been added to help vent the heat from the lasers. The "D" configuration is one seen occasionally in various units across the Inner Sphere. Configured for more direct fire support, it boasts dual LB 10-X Autocannon, one in each torso, and each with two tons of ammunition. Three Extended-range Medium Lasers, one to the rear, provide closer range backup firepower. Three more configurations ("E/F/G") have surfaced recently that appear to be upgrades of 3050 variant Archers. Another new configuration ("H") has been spotted in units that have acquired Clan missile launchers. Both Burger's Battlemecsh and Earthwerks have completed a few production runs of the ARC-O, and these have been dispersed to various units in the Free Worlds League and Federated Commonwealth, as well as a few authorized sales to select mercenary units. Preference has been given to ARC-4M, ARC-2R, and 3025 variant pilots who wish to upgrade. Most of the original prototypes are still in operation, having been donated to select units in the Draconis Combine in return for their assistance in regards to Omnimech design and operation.
