This page briefly covers the University Ave NE corridor from Central Ave in Minneapolis to US 10/MN 610 in Coon Rapids. There aren't many differences between what was proposed along University Ave in 1964 (via the JOINT Program's transportation study) and what actually came about. Both had a 4-lane expressway beginning a short ways north of Lowry Ave NE. Both were expressways. And both had a junction with the "new US 10" corridor (the present day freeway corridor which opened in 1999). The main differences rest with interchanges. In addition to the existing interchange at Coon Rapids Blvd/Old US 10, interchanges were proposed at Osborne Rd NE/CSAH 8, 73rd Ave NE, and at Mississippi St NE/CSAH 6, according to the "Interim Thoroughfare Plan".
It should also be noted that this entire stretch of MN 47 is considered by MnDOT Metro District as a potential turnback candidate.
