I-555 is a number that has been tossed about for the freeway section of US 63 between I-55 and Jonesboro. It was recently disapproved by AASHTO, likely because the I-55 to Marked Tree section still has at-grade crossings. This same section is a Congressionally designated "High Priority Corridor", and so will likely see improvements and possibly an upgrade to full freeway. I suspect that AHTD will petition AASHTO to number it I-555 after this happens.
I take it one step further and extend the freeway from Jonesboro northwest to the proposed US 67 freeway near Walnut Ridge, which I have fictionally designated I-53.
The following is a list of associated state highway renumberings/redesignations I would do along the I-555 corridor:
|OLD ROUTE||LOCATION||NEW ROUTE|
|AR 77||I-55/US 61 to West Memphis||US 61|
|AR 140||Lepanto to Marked Tree||AR 14|
|AR 308||Marked Tree to AR 135||AR 149|
|PROPOSED: Turrell, AR to Walnut Ridge, AR|
